When opening a park that rivals the size of Disneyland, it’s only fitting that the grand opening celebration take more than one day. This weekend, Royal Palm Beach will hold a two-day gargantuan grand opening at Royal Palm Beach Commons, its 167-acre park that has been nearly eight years in the making. Village officials cut the ribbon at the park earlier this month. This weekend, they’ll invite everyone to see first-hand the community space too big for words alone.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the weekend activities get rolling with a kids Fun Zone, Food Truck Invasion, and art and craft show. Bring the children’s swim suits for a run through the interactive splash fountain, and visit the Banquet Garden at the entrance to the Great Lawn for a cold brew.

Musical performances begin at 1 p.m. on the Royal Palm Auto Mall stage with country artist Jess Taylor, followed by Nashville recording artist Tom Jackson. Other artists include live tribute bands from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s: “Orange Sunshine,” featuring the hits from the ’60s; “Long Run Eagles ’70s Tribute Band” follows, and is capped by “Lazy Bonez – Rock of Ages ’80s Tribute Band.”

For those looking for activities, there will be a corn hole tournament and a volleyball tournament. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boats will be available for rent for a trip around the 19 acres of lakes.

On Sunday, the activities begin at 10 a.m. with a Green Market and classic car show. Music will be provided by smooth jazz and rhythm and blues artist Billy Bones, followed by Jimmy Buffet tribute band “Jimmy Stow and the Stowaways.”
