Wellington is pooling its resources to help residents age 62 and older whose homes need some aesthetic help with the Senior Home Repair Program, which allows eligible seniors to receive up to $7,500 toward qualified improvements. These improvements include making homes Americans with Disabilities Act compliance accessible, to fixing exterior code issues and violations, to making their homes more energy efficient and fixing any safety issues. The program came to be under the direction of the Wellington Village Council, which is looking to provide assistance for seniors living in the village.

The assistance is provided as a five-year forgivable loan at 0 percent interest. Twenty percent of the loan is forgiven each year on the anniversary of the loan. In the event the property is sold or rented during the five years following completion of the improvements, the balance of the Senior Home Repair loan becomes immediately due and payable. Outstanding code violations will be given priority.
