Over the years Wellington has quickly become a polo mecca, drawing players from around the world and creating national stars. Yet most of this has happened under the radar of most Wellington residents.

So to help bridge that gap Melissa Ganzi, one of the top players and co-owner of Wellington’s Grand Champions Polo Club, and the National Polo Museum and Hall of Fame have joined forces with the Wellington Branch Library to educate residents about polo.

The first of three educational lectures and hands-on workshops took place May 11 and was geared toward children. Ganzi brought out equipment including mallets and balls for the children to get a hands-on approach to learning about the sport

Other polo workshops will take place this month, including A Sneak Peak at Polo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. This will be presented by the curators of the National Polo Museum and Hall of Fame. Ganzi will also have a discussion geared for adults at 6:30 p.m. May 29.

Both events are at the Wellington Branch Library, 1951 Royal Fern Drive. Call 561-790-6070.
