In our busy lives, health and fitness is sometimes the last priority for many of us. By the time the work day ends, soccer practice is over, dinner has been served and kids are in bed, getting a good workout in sometimes seems impossible.

In Wellington, there are a number of options for recreation and today, today, we had the please of speaking with Seth Kaufmann of Iron Lion Fitness Studio in Wellington. Iron Lion is located near the Wellington Green Mall and focuses on indoor cycling and personal training programs for clients.

Iron Lion Fitness Studio

WAW: Tell us a bit about Iron Lion Fitness (services, memberships, etc.)

Seth: Iron Lion Fitness Studio is a boutique fitness studio in Wellington that offers yoga, indoor-cylcing, group fitness classes as well as one-on-one personal training in a private setting. We aim to make fitness accessible and fun for people of all levels and backgrounds. Our goal is to make everyone that enters the doors of the studio feel welcomed and even more importantly that they feel better when they are finished exercising than they did before entering the studio. The name Iron Lion itself also has deep meaning, it’s more than our name, it’s a way of life that we instill in all who train here. It symbolizes having inner strength, persistence and keeping an overall balance in aspects of our life’s.

WAW: Staying fit is always a challenge for almost all of us. What’s one piece of advice you can give the ‘average’ person for staying in shape and keeping it a priority?

Seth: BE CONSISTENT!! Find something exercise wise that you can tolerate and be consistent with it.You don’t have to run a marathon on day one, but there is no excuse that you can’t walk around your block once. Set a day and time to exercise and do something, anything to get your heart rate up and break a sweat. Do the best you can do every time and build and grow every day. Anything in life is possible with consistency.

WAW: Which is more important- diet or exercise?

Seth: It really depends on the individual, but for general weight loss and well being I’d personally say diet. Unfortunately it is very easy to out eat a great workout. In order to lose pounds you need to burn more calories than you consume. Fortunately there is a science to diet, exercise and supplementation and when used together you really get the best results. We’ve put together a lifestyle/eating manual at the studio that gives people the tools needed to make educated eating decisions. To me the word diet, sounds more like die with a t at the end, so the he name of the manual is AWOL (A Way Of Life), because we want to show people how you can lose weight and be healthy without depriving yourself of your favorite foods.

WAW: What’s the deal with your Yoga program?

Seth: Yoga classes are available at the studio on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 and Saturday mornings at 9:00. Classes are instructed by Melissa Mukti Devi, who completed her yoga teaching at Kashi Ashram under Guru and Yoga Master Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati. She teaches the style of Kali Natha Yoga, incorporating various flow series, each focusing on a certain energy or intention. Her class are for all ages and levels of practice and are guaranteed to leave you feeling strong, flexible, calm and even blissful!!

Getting a little off-topic…

WAW: Do you live in Wellington and if so, for how long?

Seth: My family and I moved to Wellington in 1993, when I was starting the 6th grade. I immediately made great, life-long friends including Michael Bates who is now my current business partner. We both went away for college, but had a strong affinity for Wellington and settled down here and decided that it was the best spot to open up the first Iron Lion.

WAW: Wow, you’ve been in Wellington a long time! Let it be known that we officially grant you ‘local status’. Can you tell us about one fond memory you have of this town as a kid.

Seth: Michael and I both lived pretty far west in Binks Forrest when growing up so we used to ride our bicycles or skateboards to the Wellington Marketplace and hang out by the fountain and movie theater all day long causing all sorts of harmless mischief.

WAW: What do you like most about living in Wellington? What would you recommend a new resident to check-out?

Seth: We both love the close community that Wellington has. We can’t go anywhere without bumping into a friend or someone we know. There are so many great things to do in Wellington, but I tell all new residents that they have to take the time to go and watch a polo match. It is a great way to spend an afternoon and amazing that that experience is happening right in our backyards.

WAW: What would like to more of or what improvements would you like to see locally?

Seth: Just more of the same. There have been so many great shops and restaurants opening up over the last few years, it’ll be nice to see more of them.

Thanks-a-million Seth for taking time to talk to us today! For anyone interested in checking out Iron Lion Fitness Studio in Wellington, here’s the skinny:
